I recently had lunch with an old friend and was
dumbfounded when, after a long discussion about my past couple
of years, she said "Good heavens, I thought you were
just coaching!".
I realized at that moment that I have been my usual
less that communicative self and have left many of you in the
dark as to what I am now doing. So.... I promise this
won't be like a longwinded Christmas letter from your great
aunt - but bear with me for a little update!
What a whirl wind two years I've had since I started
Drumawillan Management Inc on May 3rd, 2007!

"Life Altering" change to coaching and
facilitation! Back in the fall of 2007
Kesa's Mark Bosworth and David Hoy told me I had to go
out to Royal Roads University (RRU) and become a Certified
Executive Coach - it would life altering! I did,
and they were right! I have clients from various walks of
life and in Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary currently. We meet
twice a month face to face or often over the phone, and every
session ends with an action plan to move forward! The follow
up session of course naturally starts with a check in about
that action. While coaching is something I do
specifically, it has also entered into every other aspect of
my world. I use a coaching style when I
facilitate workshops and planning sessions and I
certainly use coaching language when working with businesses
and organizations to take action on the plans they've
developed. I use "a coach approach" when I
am teaching students at Grant MacEwan's Golf Management
Program about "Working with Boards and Committees".
I used coaching techniques in project managing the
development of a staff orientation program for the Law
Society of Alberta.
You notice how I snuck in a few of the things
I've been doing in the text above - this really will be
painless reading for you! The fascinating
piece for me is that I am still doing what I have done for
over 35 years. I am still being recruited to help
organizations and people move forward, make change, plan,
deliver those plans, improve, mend, reorganize.
I am using all those years of experience at The
Dow Centennial Centre, TELUS, Eaton Centre, Canadian Men's
Curling Championship, The House of Banjo, Canapen Investments,
McCoy Bros, Thorne Ernst and Whiney (KPMG now), The Edmonton
Klondike Days Association COMBINED WITH the tools of coaching,
facilitation, project management, business planning,
strategic planning, to help my clients move
forward.

I Started as a Teacher and I am Teaching
Again
I started my career as a tenor banjo teacher at the
House of Banjo in Edmonton. Now I am teaching Golf Management
Students at Grant MacEwan College about what they might face
when they work with the Board of Directors at their respective
Golf Clubs. I've also been asked to create and
lead a two hour seminar in Fort Saskatchewan around
Leadership. I am calling it "Leadership? Leadership!"
That's been such fun that I've just recently partnered
with associates of mine to offer that and other seminars to
the public! | |
Last But Not Least I've Been Consulting with the
Public!
I've had the great pleasure this last
2 years to be working with a wonderful friend - Al Parsons and
Gray Scott Consulting Group Inc - on various
projects primarily for the City of Edmonton.
Al has been in this business for years and has
allowed me to learn about the process as we go. I am now doing
the one on one interviews with stakeholders and compiling the
data into report form. This involvement with developing
questions, building the process to engage the public, survey
development and data collection has really been exciting and I
have found a passion for this kind of work as well! The coach
approach is invaluable for this work!

So that's some of what I have been doing in the past few
years! If you have the time, I'd love to buy you
a cup of coffee and chat with you about your successes and
challenges - what you're doing these days! My
email is loie@drumawillan.com and my phone number is
780-479-2790. Why don't you give me a call or drop me a
note! As with most businesses, mine thrives on
referrals! If you have someone in mind (client, friend, or
associate) that you think would be interested in talking
about coaching, workshop presentations or meeting
and workshop facilitation, or if you work with or for a
company that needs a renewed focus on moving forward, I hope
you'll give them my name and number. I
sure hope to see you in person soon! Loie
